TICKETS for Universal Studios theme park went on sale at 9am on Wednesday morning.
Despite the morning rain, there were at least 20 people queuing in line at the box office in Resorts World Sentosa.
The overwhelming demand to book tickets on the phone and online caused the website to crash in the morning and the hotline was perpetually busy.
Engineer Basheer Hamid, 38, was unable to get his tickets and resorted to going down to the site office to get the ticket.
He said: 'I started calling at 9am sharp on two different phone lines and didn't get to speak to anyone despite being on hold for half an hour. I tried the website but it was also down.'
The theme park is slated to open on March 18.

 Reflection:
South-East Asia first Universal Studio is now opening soon. People can't wait for it and everybody is elated. Soon, Singapore will be piled up with crowds from all over the world. The incident that Basheer Hamid experienced might have happened to a lot of other people. As we can see, people are longing for the tickets very badly to enter the Universal Studio Singapore very badly even before the Universal opens. The latest news i heard was the ticket for March 18-20 had been sold out. What happen in June-July holiday will be the main point because people in South-East Asia will purposely come to Singapore to play the Universal Studio mainly from Malaysia and Indonesia. Now, people have been crazy for the tickets and they should prepare for the June-July holidays. Maybe we should also start booking the tickets before we miss the first South-East Asia Universal Studio.
